The Village Council unanimously approved on Feb. 24 an ordinance to annex approximately 5.5 acres of Lake Worth Road frontage in front of Panther Run Elementary School. Staff said the annexation corrects a gap created when the school itself was annexed in 2023 but the adjacent roadbed remained outside village limits; the change will allow the village to manage traffic rules and safety in the immediate school corridor.
Palm Beach County agreed to consent to the uniform method of annexation contingent on a finalized interlocal agreement (ILA) describing technical responsibilities and any roadway remediation. Staff said the county must complete its internal review; the village will return the final ILA for second reading and formal adoption. The ordinance was adopted with a 5–0 vote.
Next steps: staff will coordinate the ILA and technical pavement/geotechnical work with Palm Beach County and return the agreement at second reading; after county consent, the village will assume maintenance responsibilities for that road segment.
