Doug Crane, director of the Palm Beach County Library System, updated Wellington’s council on countywide library usage, services and planned capital work. Crane said the system handled roughly 2.68 million visits last year, circulated 8.8 million items and had robust program participation. He highlighted specialized offerings at the Wellington branch, including a digital media lab (Creation Station), early‑voting service, children’s programming and outreach services such as a bookmobile.
Crane said the county board authorized staff to explore a capital campaign to renovate all branch facilities, pursue the idea of a new main library building, and return with language that could allow a future bond referendum if property‑tax reform does not preclude it. Councilmembers thanked Crane for the update and for local branch services that support children and families; staff had no questions and there was no further action required.
