Wellington auditors give village a clean opinion for fiscal year 2025

Auditors from CBIZ presented the annual comprehensive financial report for the year ended Sept. 30, 2025, and delivered an unmodified opinion, the firmsaid at the March 10 Village of Wellington council meeting. "In our opinion, the accompanying financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the respective financial position of the village," auditor Moe Riza said.
Tanya Quickel and the audit team highlighted several results: the villageheld an investment portfolio just shy of $174 million at year end, reported a positive net change in position of about $39.2 million and closed the year with village-wide net position near $498.9 million. The auditors said they performed federal and state single-audit procedures and found no reportable compliance issues for the programs tested, including the COVID federal program and the state SHIP program.
Riza also noted the audit included an internal-control review and that the auditors "did not identify any deficiencies in internal control that we consider to be communicated to those charged with governance." Council members asked for the plain-language takeaway for residents; Riza said the unmodified opinion is the highest level of assurance an external audit provides.
Council members and staff praised finance staff for preparing the documents and working with the auditors to complete three audit engagements this year (ACFR, federal single audit, state single audit). The council had no substantive follow-up questions; Riza opened the floor to questions and said the audit communication letter describing significant estimates and any difficulties in performing the audit had been issued on March 2.
The council did not take formal action on the audit presentation. The audit package is posted on the village website and staff said a press release was scheduled to go out following the meeting.
