Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council on June 25 that the department reviewed its May report and had engaged nearby agencies for support at the French Creek Festival. Chief Pernice said Erie County Detectives will fund overtime and provide 2–3 officers to increase coverage, and he has asked Corry PSP for additional coverage though he had not yet received a response.
Chief Pernice reported comparative fundraising figures from neighboring departments, saying that Corry raised approximately $16,000 at its recent golf scramble and Warren raised about $18,000–$20,000. He told the council he is completing a Civil Service background check and expects it to be finished by July 5, 2024. He also said he has been making updates to department policies via Lexipol and that the solicitor is reviewing those policy changes.
During discussion of amendments to the parking ordinance, Chief Pernice explained license‑plate‑reader technology and its investigative uses, saying, "License Plate Readers showed videos. They can search plates on the system and assist in an investigation anywhere in the country. It helps to better protect the community as well." Council asked Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips to review Municipal Lot #2 layout with angled parking as part of follow-up work.
