Board recognizes TSA students and district high-jump champion headed to states and nationals

The Mechanicsburg Area School District board on June 9 recognized student achievements in Technology Student Association events and athletics.
Superintendent Dr. Bitts (S7) introduced the TSA recognition. Mr. Statler (S5), the TSA advisor, reported that six students attended regionals and that all six advanced to states; four chose to attend the state conference, where Kyle Moreno and Kate Ellwell placed in technology problem-solving and other events. "Kyle Moreno and Kate Ellwell placed 6th place in technology problem solving," Statler said, and he praised students' time investment and collaboration.
In athletics, Mr. Pahanek (S10) and Coach Hager (S3) introduced Jack Jackson (S11), a sophomore who won the District 3 high jump, set a school record and qualified for state and national championships. Coach Hager noted that Jackson "broke a school record" and described the camaraderie among competitors; Jackson thanked his coaches and family during brief remarks and described preparing to clear 6 feet 7 inches in pursuit of national qualification.
Board members offered congratulations to the students and coaches. The recognitions were presented during the superintendent's report and athletic report portions of the meeting and required no board vote.
