Commissioners refer proposed county gateway signage to tourism council after cost, design and funding debate

Several residents urged a unified brand and DRB review; others opposed high expenditures while parks and recreation and public safety needs remain.
After extended public comment the board directed staff to present the concept and materials to the TDC for review and to return with a recommendation on gateway signs (which TDC can vet under its traditional funding rules). Commissioners emphasized any signs on Highway 98 will require DRB review if funded with TDT/TDC dollars; staff will report back with phased options, scaled‑down sign alternatives and funding sources.
No purchase was authorized; direction was to seek TDC review, design‑review input and tighter cost estimates.
