Walton County expands naloxone access, endorses Revive Awareness Day and approves prevention grants

Walton County commissioners recognized June 6 as Revive Awareness Day and heard a presentation from the Overdose Prevention Task Force outlining expanded naloxone access, peer-support networks and jail-bridge and post‑overdose outreach efforts. Health Officer Holly Holtz told commissioners the county had logged 394 naloxone box fills Jan–May 2026, 65 EMS overdose responses in that period and 30 naloxone administrations (13 documented positive reversals); the county also reported four suspected fatal overdoses during the same window.
Chief Foss and staff requested approval to place five additional naloxone (Narcan) boxes at county parks (Mossy Head Park, Valley View Community Center Park, Four Mile Creek Landing, Piltchure Park boat ramp and Helen McCall Park). Commissioners approved the request (motion and recorded vote, 5–0).
Separately, the board accepted recommendations from the Overdose Prevention Task Force and authorized staff to proceed with funding contracts for community providers delivering prevention and treatment services (Be Generous, Florida Department of Health, Freedom Life Compass, Lake View Center, North Walton Doctors Hospital, Pancare, Point Washington Medical Clinic). Commissioners voted to accept the recommendations and move forward with contract development (motion; vote 5–0).
County staff said peer navigator services are available via a single access number (844-352-7337) and encouraged use of the pathwayback.com locator for naloxone and provider resources.
