The Poteau Public Schools Board accepted the resignation of board member Dennis Yokum, approved changes to bank signatories, and agreed to name the district’s new weight room for donor Bob Reed at its June meeting.
Superintendent (reporting the matter) said Dennis Yokum submitted a resignation effective June 30, 2026; the superintendent stated Yokum is stepping down because his wife is joining the district’s staff and thanked him for service since 2023. The board discussed the resignation and then took a roll-call vote.
The board also approved edits to Community State Bank accounts and CDs: removing Diane Tillery and Dennis Yokum from signatory lists and adding Dr. Barbara Gillum and Gary Heck, effective June 8, 2026. Valerie explained the accounts include a tax account, an activity fund with a money market and CDs, and a 12-month CD (ending in "91") that serves as the general-fund CD.
On facility naming, the board approved a recommendation to call the new weight room the Bob Reed Strength and Conditioning Center after a one-time $50,000 donation from Reed. Valerie said the gift "would go back into our building fund," and noted that donations are difficult to secure for the building fund, calling the contribution "a huge win for our community." The board moved and approved the naming.
All three items were approved in the meeting’s routine votes; no contested objections were recorded.
