The Clayton County Conservation Board on May 5 discussed the upcoming end of a two-year agreement with the Clayton County Energy District (CCED) and the lack of funding the Energy District reported for FY27.
Deputy Director Ean Popenhagen said he spoke with Energy District board member Joleen Jansen, who told him the Energy District has no money available at this time. Director Jenna Van Meeteren said the Community Foundation could be a possible funding source if the Energy District advances a strategic plan. Board member Gary Kregel recommended reducing the Energy District portion of the shared employee’s duties and increasing conservation responsibilities while continuing energy education for schools and the public.
The board agreed in principle to shift the employee’s emphasis toward conservation tasks but to maintain energy education activities. Popenhagen will contact Jansen to discuss the board’s direction and report back to the board with next steps.
The minutes do not show a formal vote or a new contract; the discussion records direction to staff and follow-up actions.
