Niskayuna committee approves $6,000 IT retainer, asks energy vendor for short-term proposal and a presentation

The Finance & General Government Committee approved a $6,000 retainer with CB20 IT professional services to map municipal servers, switches and firewalls and to prepare data that could support a future RFP for IT maintenance services.
Town Supervisor Sarah Bolovski moved for approval of the retainer and the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Bolovski said the mapping work will help the town better understand its infrastructure and decide what to include in a competitive request for proposals to maintain or replace services.
Separately, members discussed an energy-supply audit and supplier proposal from EGS Energy. Staff said EGS had pushed longer-term (five-year) supply contracts during earlier discussions; staff and members said they preferred a shorter commitment (two years) and asked the vendor to do a presentation for the board before any resolution is considered. Staff gave the vendor access to National Grid bills so the company can analyze usage and prepare a clear comparison. Committee members flagged the billing complexity — where National Grid bills transmission and third-party suppliers provide supply — and noted some municipal solar installations have unclear ownership arrangements dating to about 2011, which staff said they hoped the vendor’s audit would clarify.
Next steps: staff will finalize the CB20 scope of work under the $6,000 retainer and schedule a vendor presentation from EGS Energy so the board can consider a resolution after review.
