The Board of Adjustment of the City of Rowlett administered the oath of office to newly appointed board members and elected board officers before taking other business.
Derek Hall, Community Development Director, led the oath of office and directed new members to sign the notarized documents afterward. "So as it is traditionally, whenever we have new board members that join our board, we are required to administer the oath of office," Hall said as members repeated the oath.
New appointees introduced themselves. Kendall Patton said he works in risk management at JPMorgan and has lived in Rowlett more than a decade. Gavin Schultz said he has lived in Rowlett for over 40 years and works locally for a concrete company. A newly appointed member identified themselves as a recent transfer from the planning and zoning committee and said they are retired. Another new member identified himself as Greg Horniman and said he is with NREL and is semi-retired.
After the oath and introductions, the board moved immediately to elect officers. The chair opened nominations and the board recorded a hand/voice vote after reporting technical difficulties with the electronic voting system. The motion to appoint Joshua Hughes as chair carried with unanimous support, as recorded by the meeting president. The board then nominated John Dougherty for vice chair; that motion was seconded and likewise approved by voice.
During the consent portion of the agenda the board approved minutes from the Nov. 12 meeting with two corrections: the recorded call-to-order time was corrected to 06:31 and alternate member Adam Mordecai was recorded as present rather than absent. The corrections were noted on the record and a motion to approve the amended minutes was moved and seconded; the chair called the question and the ayes carried.
With no further public commenters signed up and no additional business, the chair moved to adjourn and the meeting concluded.
The meeting documentation indicates the administration of oaths, officer elections, and corrected minutes; no policy decisions or contested votes occurred at this session.
