Resident urges Rowlett to demand DART enforce fares, improve station safety

During citizen input, Allison Felderhoff, a Rowlett resident and business owner, urged the council to push Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) to improve safety and enforcement at stations that serve Rowlett.
Felderhoff said business owners and residents are reporting welfare checks, trespassing, public disturbances and people in crisis at or near stations, and she urged stronger fare enforcement and a regular DART law-enforcement presence. “If DART is bringing people into our community, then DART, Dallas, and the broader region must be part of the solution,” she said.
She asked the council to pursue measurable performance standards in Rowlett’s contract relationship with DART and said the city should consider renegotiation if DART is unwilling to provide consistent security and connections to services. Felderhoff cited a reported figure that DART paid $2,400,000 in executive bonuses last year while local communities seek basic safety improvements.
The council did not take action on these requests during the public-comment period. Felderhoff framed her ask as accountability for a regional transit partner that receives local funding and recommended local/regional coordination on enforcement and service standards.
