Planning commission pauses formation of comp‑plan subcommittees, asks staff for detailed future‑land‑use map and data

On Oct. 9 the Lago Vista Planning and Zoning Commission voted to pause creating subcommittees to work on the comprehensive plan update until commissioners receive a more detailed future land‑use map that includes entitlements for existing PDDs and other requested tools.
Several commissioners said they feared rushing technical recommendations without the maps and entitlement details that the commission requested months earlier. Commissioner 3 argued the commission should "wait for the work session, get the tools that we've asked for and been asking for, go ahead and make our somewhat baked recommendations." The chair, citing the need for precise information, asked staff to provide the future land‑use map and related ordinance entitlements so commissioners can prepare substantive comments for the scheduled joint session with city council on Oct. 16.
The commission also voted unanimously to defer action on agenda items 5 through 9 to a special‑call meeting on Oct. 23 and to add the drainage referral to that session. Commissioners asked staff to consult local real‑estate professionals (1431 Real Estate was mentioned) to obtain current per‑acre values to inform any proposed fee‑in‑lieu adjustments for parkland dedication.
The motion to defer was framed as an effort to ensure adequate time and data for decision‑making rather than to delay policy action indefinitely; staff and the liaison (Rob Durbin) were asked to gather the requested materials ahead of the special meeting.
