The Enumclaw School District Board on May 18 approved three resolutions that change school scheduling rules and authorize construction-related actions, and it voted to name the district's new elementary school.
Board President opened the item by summarizing each resolution: Resolution 11 68 is a 180-school-day waiver for transitional kindergarten, Resolution 1 1 6 9 is a 180-school-day waiver that permits incoming ninth graders to have a full on-campus day, and Resolution 11 70 approves a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) amendment related to a construction project. Director Stouffer moved to approve the three resolutions; Director Cochran seconded. After brief clarification from a board member about the GMP authorization, the board adopted all three resolutions by voice vote.
The board also approved a special inspections and testing contract for a construction project intended to verify materials and workmanship meet required standards. The contract was moved by Director Stouffer and seconded by Director Fisher and was approved by voice vote.
On a separate motion, the board voted to name Elementary School No. 6 and select a mascot. Director Fisher moved to name the school "Evergreen Trail Blazers," a motion seconded by Director Stouffer. The board discussed the naming committee's process and community input before approving the name by voice vote.
Routine governance items followed: the board approved several policy second readings (covering items including ethical conduct for school directors and maintenance of facilities records), accepted the internal financial report, and authorized payroll and vouchers. The consent agenda, which included personnel actions, a proposed middle-school ELA curriculum adoption (previously presented), district surplus items and donations, passed as presented.
The meeting record shows these motions were adopted by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The board scheduled an executive session to review applicant qualifications for employment and adjourned following that session at 8:56 p.m.
