Newton commission approves facade grants, Chamber funding increase, planning permit and housing authority changes

Planning item: The commission received the Planning Commission’s recommendation and approved a special-use permit application for a proposed 24-by-28 two-story garage with second-level living quarters at 320 South Pine. The official zoning map had been amended to allow the application; the commission approved the combined motions and adopted resolution GDash1381.
Newton Housing Authority: The mayor moved to begin removal proceedings for two Newton Housing Authority commissioners for failing to resolve issues raised at a prior meeting. The commission voted to start that removal process and then moved to appoint three new members—Greg Yutze, Cindy Simmons and K Self—to fill vacant and unexpired terms; the appointments were seconded and approved by voice vote.
