Council reviews revised job description for planning and development specialist

Macomb city staff presented a revised job description for a new planning and development specialist position and the committee placed the item on next week’s council agenda for formal action.
Mr. Suarez, who walked the council through the revised draft, said the position’s language was edited to make the role supportive rather than regulatory. He said staff removed a bullet saying the specialist would “interpret and administer zoning ordinance” and instead changed that duty to assisting with review of development applications and supporting the community development director. “We did add bullet point number five,” he said, explaining the new language adds programming assistance with TIFF, the BDD and other redevelopment issues.
Mr. Suarez told council the edits were reviewed with the city administrator and the human resources director and represent wording changes to better reflect the intended level of responsibility. Council asked clarifying questions; staff said the full job description is in the packet. The committee placed the item on the agenda for action at next week’s City Council meeting.
