Creature Alley complete; Dragonfly installation scheduled; staff flags budget reconciliation

Commissioners received multiple project updates at the June 4 meeting: all five Creature Alley pieces have been installed, and staff reported the Dragonfly sculpture will be installed in Sunrise Park with site work and artist arrival slated for July 12–14. The commission discussed possible dedication timing (October), public access considerations and siting constraints such as ceiling height for indoor pieces.
On budget, staff said the commission's initial allocation was $98,000 with $51,000 in actual expenditures and about $46,000 listed as available, but that the accounting department's figures showed a much smaller balance (about $2,000). Staff attributed the difference to methodology and said they will reconcile records and confirm pending encumbrances for projects such as the AIDS memorial.
Staff also reported exploring a pro bono inventory app opportunity from Bloomberg Philanthropies to build a collection-management application; staff will check qualification and city approval requirements and report back to the commission.
