Commission amends Sculpture Services contract to add maintenance and installations; $61,680 approved

The Palm Springs Public Art Commission on June 4 voted to amend its maintenance and installation agreement with Signature Sculpture to add five additional pieces for installation, de-installation and ongoing cleaning work.
Staff reported that the commission previously budgeted maintenance work for several recently installed pieces and that Signature Sculpture had served as installer and on-call contractor. "I did get an updated quote that brings the total down to 61,680 instead of 67,500," staff said during discussion, and commissioners agreed to amend the contract to include Fossils of the Future, the Pride monument, two Creature Alley pieces, Artscape in the Parks pieces and the Dragonfly piece.
Commissioners discussed contract scope and procurement practice: Signature Sculpture will act as a subcontractor when larger, budgeted projects require an experienced installation crew. Staff said much of the spending will be reflected in next year's budget and that the amendment will also require council consideration as part of contracting rules.
The motion to amend the maintenance agreement passed unanimously. Staff said they will forward the contract amendment to council and align implementation with the city's budgeting cycle.
