Monticello council approves multiple rezonings, PUD amendments and permits
Summary
Through the consent agenda and separate resolutions the council adopted multiple land-use actions including Meadowbrook PUD adjustments, rezoning and conditional use permits for Moon Motor Sports and Wan Qun Lin, and approved the Second Amendment to the Stony Brook Village PUD; the council also accepted donations for the skate park and approved several special event permits.
At its May 26 meeting the Monticello City Council approved a slate of land-use and event items, adopting several resolutions and ordinances that will change zoning and advance local development projects.
Consent agenda actions included adoption of Resolution 2026-37 amending the Meadowbrook Preliminary Plat and PUD adjustments; Resolution 2026-38 and Resolution 2026-39 and Ordinance 867 to amend the Comprehensive Plan guidance and rezone a parcel for Moon Motor Sports; and Resolution 2026-40 approving a Conditional Use Permit for vehicle sales and rental in a Highway Business district. The council also adopted Resolution 2026-41 and Ordinance 868 rezoning a parcel for applicant Wan Qun Lin to Regional Business District (B-4) and approved Resolution 2026-42 granting a Conditional Use Permit for a restaurant use within 300 feet of residentially zoned property.
Other consent items of note included the adoption of Resolution 2026-36 accepting $77,708 in donations from local businesses for the Monticello Skate Park project and approval of multiple special event permits (Raise the Ruff downtown event, Summerfest, MCC Block Party and two outdoor entertainment permits for Nordic Tap House). The council also authorized final contract payment to Valley Paving, Inc. for Broadway Street improvements and adopted Resolution 2026-43 authorizing the Second Amendment to the Stony Brook Village Development Contract and PUD.
All listed consent items were approved as part of the consent agenda motions that carried unanimously. Mayor Hilgart later led a short discussion about the former Chamber of Commerce building and the council reached consensus to pursue removal quotes.
