Monticello awards $1.95 million contract to replace failing Ditch 33 outlet

The Monticello City Council on May 26 adopted Resolution 2026-48 accepting bids and awarding the Monticello Ditch 33 stormwater improvement contract to Kuechle Underground Inc. for $1,945,722.60.
Public Works Director Matt Leonard said the project will install a new 48-inch stormwater outlet to the Mississippi River to replace and bypass a deteriorating segment of Wright County Ditch 33, improving stormwater passage from areas within the city and surrounding township. He reported that Kuechle submitted the low bid and that the project is supported by a mix of MnDOT PROTECT program funds, Wright County water-quality funding, MPCA grants and anticipated additional MnDOT funding, totaling roughly $2.7 million in potential grant support against an estimated project cost of about $2.4 million.
Leonard said construction is expected to begin in July, pending approval, and to be completed later in the fall. The Council approved the award unanimously (motion by Councilmember Martie, seconded by Councilmember Gabler).
The resolution authorizes the city to proceed with the low bidder and to administer the project with the noted grant partners and contingencies for funding.
