Golf course staff: irrigation contract signed; preconstruction meeting set, 150-day clause aims for summer completion

A staff member for the Lago Vista golf course said the city has signed the irrigation contract and a preconstruction meeting is expected in two to three weeks, marking the next step in a project staff described as central to restoring course playability.

"The contract has been signed," the staff member said, adding that "they've got [a] 150 day clause in their contract" and projecting best‑case completion around Aug. 1 and worst‑case near Labor Day. He said city project engineer Victor, designer Les Hill and superintendent George will attend the preconstruction meeting and that the work includes an irrigation detention pond and removal of an aging pump house.

The staff member traced the project’s halt two Octobers ago to a cease-and-desist order and described that delay as ultimately saving the city money because it reduced an earlier water‑use design "from 1,500,000 gallons" to a lower volume staff considers appropriate. He said contractors with renovation experience from California and Texas were selected and that the city will oversee field adjustments as they arise during construction.

Committee members asked about the construction’s operational impacts. The staff member said typically one hole — at most two — would close at a time, and that rounds and tournaments would be accommodated by assigning net par to any closed hole so handicaps are maintained.
