EDC forms three‑member planning subcommittee to vet firms and strategy

The Lago Vista Economic Development Corporation voted unanimously on May 12 to form a three‑member subcommittee to evaluate economic development planning assistance firms and to develop strategy recommendations for the full board and city council.
Board member David Von Alarkey made the motion to create the subcommittee composed of himself, Chair Justin Lownds and Don Jondro to discuss economic development planning and strategy. A board member seconded the motion and the board passed it by unanimous voice vote.
Staff noted that the city has already vetted several planning organizations and that the subcommittee will receive a list of pre‑qualified firms (including TVA Douglas) to review project scoping, budgets and expected planning fees. Staff advised the subcommittee that projects which would request hotel occupancy tax (HOT) or other city funding should be packaged with a strategic plan and presented to council for budgeting and procurement consideration.
The board discussed possible project types — for example, a Don Drive artist district or a bicycle connection along 1431 — and the need to define scope, budget and preferred vendors before submitting any funding requests to council. Chair Lownds said the group will coordinate with staff to obtain the vetted vendor list and return recommendations to the full board.
