Commission hears rain-garden update, reorganizes Green Fair staffing and approves a slate of site plans and tenant applications

At its April 22 meeting the Mahwah Environmental Commission received a report on a rain-garden cleanup and reorganized Green Fair staffing after several exhibitors canceled, then moved on to approve several routine site plans and tenant applications.

Sustainable Jersey consultant Karin LaGreca described a recent cleanup of the town rain garden coordinated with students and a native-plant landscaper from Sprout Farms and Gardens; she reported removal of invasive plants and outlined plans for continued maintenance and plantings. LaGreca also stated that several exhibitors for the 2026 Green Fair canceled at the last minute and recommended assigning students to operate several Department of Public Works displays and to run a previously produced DPW video; members discussed logistics and assignment of oversight responsibilities.

Following the community items, the Commission approved a series of site plans: Brittany Rehain (365 Franklin Turnpike — pool, retaining walls, driveway extension, patio, walkway, shed and fence), Kyle & Stacie Kennedy (142 Johnson Avenue — patio base), Gary Silberstein (4 Robin Road — installation of a 12" x 12" NDS catch basin connected to the street inlet) and Karl & Jamie Kreshpane (100 Stabled Way — fill uneven spots in paddock). Each item was approved after the recorded motion and second. The Commission also approved tenant applications TA #26-0016 for Dov Gross (63 Ramapo Valley Road, Suite 202 — interior design) and TA #26-0017 for Skyline Entities, Inc. (67 Ramapo Valley Road, Suite 205 — management).

No funding or enforcement actions related to the rain garden, Green Fair, or the approved site plans were recorded during the meeting. The Commission closed the public session and adjourned at 8:45 p.m.; the rain-garden work and Green Fair plans remain active items for Commission follow-up.
