Committee orders phased review of roughly 75 boxes of historic items found in courthouse crawlspace

Oneida County Facilities Committee members on June 8 directed staff to proceed with a staged review of historic items stored in the courthouse crawlspace after receiving an update from Buildings & Grounds staff.
Troy Huber, Buildings & Grounds, reported that about 75 additional boxes remain in the crawlspace, with more materials located in the Buildings & Grounds office. Tracy Hartman, Administrative Coordinator, told the committee that under state law the county must allow the historical society to review any items older than 20 years before the county can destroy or give them away. The committee agreed items should be reviewed in sections and asked Huber to check with staff on potential storage locations.
Committee members emphasized limiting additional handling while the office inventory work continues: Chairman Russ Fisher said staff should not bring more items up from the crawlspace until current items are addressed, and Robert Almekinder expressed concern about the amount of employee time the review is consuming. The committee left the item on future agendas for progress updates.
