Farmingdale approves stop sign; DPW reports park, lighting and meter work
Summary
Trustees approved a stop sign at Bernard and Prospect and received DPW updates including completion of Yoakum Street Park (berm work remaining), gazebo repointing, electrified parking meter reinstallation, holiday-lighting preparations and completed paving and crack sealing on nine roads.
At its Nov. 4 work session the Farmingdale Board of Trustees approved a traffic-control change and reviewed several Department of Public Works projects and operational items.
Trustee Cheryl Parisi moved and Deputy Mayor William Barrett seconded a motion to add a stop sign and stop bar at the corner of Bernard Street and Prospect Street; the motion was adopted (RESOLVED #2025-11-04).
DPW staff reported that routine lot maintenance and garbage pickup in parks continues, that Yoakum Street Park is completed though a berm behind the park still requires finishing, and that gazebo brick work and repointing of Fire Department and courtroom stoops are scheduled. Ken Tortoso provided weekly DPW assignments and noted leaf crews are active and tree trimming/stump grinding is underway by Castro Landscaping.
The board discussed evaluating lighting at the Melville Road/Secatogue Avenue intersection, using GFI units supplied by the Town of Oyster Bay for holiday lighting (50 units prepared by village staff), checking schedules for selected traffic lights, and verifying Parking Lot 3 Blue Spruce trees for electrical access to support holiday decorations. The village is awaiting an Altice plan for North Main Street and reported a deposit was paid to PSEG for pole removal.
DPW and code staff said electrified parking meters are being reinstalled with remaining conversions handled by McKay Meters, and staff will follow up on camera coordination with Hello Alert for the downtown business district and LIRR parking lots. Anthony Rubino was assigned to repoint the gazebo and stoops; the leaf schedule will be forwarded to Trustee Parisi.
The trustees did not take additional formal votes on DPW capital items during the work session; staff will continue scheduling and implementation and report back as tasks are completed.
