Burlingame planners approve two-story home and ADU at 10 Stanley Road

The Burlingame Planning Commission on June 8 approved a major design-review application to replace an existing one-story dwelling at 10 Stanley Road with a 2,567-square-foot two-story home, a detached garage and a 577-square-foot accessory dwelling unit (ADU).

Staff told the commission the project complies with applicable regulations and recommended approval by resolution. Designer Jesse Gersa, representing the out-of-town owner, said the existing house is in poor condition and the new craftsman-style design includes an ADU intended for a future family member. “I’m here to represent them,” Gersa said, and offered to answer commissioners’ questions about the site and design.

Commissioners asked whether a large, historically planted street tree would be retained; staff and the applicant confirmed the street tree would remain and be protected. Commissioners also raised details such as chimney height and front-door proportions; the applicant said chimney height could be lowered if needed for a gas or electric fireplace.

No members of the public spoke on the item. After discussion, a motion to approve the project per the staff resolution carried by roll call vote of the four commissioners present. Staff reminded the public that the commission’s decision is appealable to the City Council within 10 days and must be filed in writing with the required fee.
