Rye Conservation Commission backs an Eagle Scout bench, schedules trails session and elects officers

At its April 9 meeting the Rye Conservation Commission unanimously supported an Eagle Scout project to install a bench at the Brackett Road Massacre site, provided the applicant flags the proposed location for an on‑site review. The bench selected by the Rye Historic District Commission will sit about 20 feet from the marsh and 25 feet from nearby headstones; concrete pavers will anchor it. Victor Odryna moved to support the project with the condition of viewing the flagged site and the motion passed unanimously.
The commission reassigned responsibility for refilling dog‑waste bag stations along trails (members Suchocki, Joyce and Martilla each took responsibility for specific stations) and scheduled a trails information session for April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall. Members were encouraged to view presentations by Rachel Stevens and to watch a March 5 streamed presentation available on the town website.
The commission also completed routine business: electing Shawn Joyce as chair, Victor Odryna as vice‑chair, Hugh Lee as secretary/clerk and Gary Terhune as treasurer (all nominations approved unanimously); approving minutes for March 5, March 12 and March 19; and approving three DTC invoices.
