Board affirms Brightfeather Road name despite neighbor objections over notice and addresses

Gary Howe, who said he has lived on the road for 50 years, told the board he and nearby residents had not been notified and were upset at the lack of neighbor consultation. "What bothers me more, not so much the name as the disrespect of the time and the courtesy being a neighbor," Howe said, adding that mail delivery and address clarity had been disrupted.
Applicant James W. Jones said he filed the county forms, followed the survey department process and had prepared petitions showing three of the four homeowners on the road now supported the name; he argued that the change improves emergency response and delivery identification.
The board noted public-safety concerns and the need for consistent addresses. After discussion, a supervisor made a motion to leave the name as Brightfeather Road for the parcel identified in county records; the board approved the motion by voice vote 5-0.
Next step: Surveying staff will process any remaining address changes to conform to county addressing conventions and work with affected residents on practical delivery and signage issues.
