Aguirre Curry says AB 19 87 will return hunting and lease fees to state wildlife areas

Assemblymember Agriar Curry asked the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee to accept amendments and advance AB 19 87, saying the bill will require fees generated at state wildlife areas to support the operation and maintenance of the lands where those fees are collected.
"AB 19 87 will help fund our state wildlife areas by making sure the fees they generate support their operation and maintenance," Curry said, adding that California's wildlife areas ‘‘provide natural habitat, control flooding, and give the public access to activities like hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, and more." She told the committee the areas generate nearly $6,000,000 per year from hunter fees and agricultural leases.
Michael Chen of Audubon California registered support at the microphone. No witnesses registered opposition during the hearing.
The committee did not complete final action for members not present; Senator Reyes moved the measure as amended to the Appropriations Committee and the roll call among present members recorded six aye votes. The clerk recorded the bill as on call for absent members.
If enacted, AB 19 87 would change how revenues from user fees are allocated at state wildlife areas so those funds remain available for local operations and maintenance. The committee referred the bill to appropriations for further consideration of cost and fiscal impacts.
