County approves $2,000 in easements for Sublet Bridge; Hawkins Bridge awarded at $1.3M

A county road official identified as Kyle briefed the commissioners on June 9 about local projects funded through the Leading Idaho Local Bridge Program. He said 156 bridges statewide were approved under a roughly $500 million program and that Bannock County has two county-jurisdiction replacements: the Hawkins Bridge (awarded, $1.3 million, construction and related roadway work beginning this fall) and the Sublet Bridge (in the bid stage).
Kyle said the Sublet Bridge project requires acquiring small additional right-of-way on three parcels—about 10 feet beyond the current roadway—and that county staff and the property owners had discussed the request. The cost to purchase the three easements would be “just over $2,000,” he said, and noted county capital savings could cover the expense after counsel and audit steps are completed. Commissioners discussed a deed-signature irregularity on one parcel and asked staff to confirm whether a power of attorney or corrected deed is required. After discussion, the board voted to approve purchasing the easements and to move the funding through county capital lines as proposed.
The Hawkins Bridge, Kyle said, already passed the bid process and is planned to start this fall; it includes associated asphalt and road realignment work. County staff will follow up with legal and recording steps on the easements and confirm deed signatures where needed.
