Board adopts updated high school handbook after second reading; minor policy reordering noted

The Onalaska School District Board of Education approved the second reading of the high school student handbook at its June 8 meeting, adopting organizational changes to clarify tardy and co-curricular policies.
Charlie summarized the revisions, saying there were no major content changes from the first reading but that the order and clarity of some items were adjusted — including a change referenced in the packet related to tardy handling (reducing a window from 15 to 5 minutes) and tying co-curricular participation to attendance language. "I did just rearrange... didn't change any of the contents necessarily, but just kind of the order in which they read," Charlie said.
A motion to approve the handbook was made by Mark and seconded by Tracy. The board called for a vote; the motion carried after a voice vote. During the vote a member said, "I oppose," but the motion was recorded as approved.
Board members thanked Charlie and staff for the work on the handbook and for the clarifying edits. The approved handbook will guide the district's high school attendance and co-curricular expectations for the 2026–27 school year.
