Animal shelter project advances; county awaits Ready Grant decision and final bids

Miss Parker updated the council on the animal shelter project on June 9, reporting progress on site deeds, engineering and funding.
Miss Parker said IvyTech is continuing the deed process and that Patriot Engineering started geotechnical sampling the morning of the meeting. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings were nearly complete and civil engineering work had begun following a recent survey.
On finances, Miss Parker said the county’s building fund started with $129,339 and pledges and donations to date total $391,227, bringing the local account close to $520,566. With a Ready Grant application in pre‑commitment review by IEDC for roughly $1.66 million, she said the county’s combined resources and the grant would put the project near an estimated $2.12 million before final bids.
Miss Parker asked for continued coordination with the commissioners to close any funding gap after bid results and noted community support and volunteer efforts have been substantial.
