Anamosa council hears project delays at water plant, approves sewer contract amendments and a pump replacement

At the May 26 meeting, the City Council of the City of Anamosa received a status update from HR Green and approved several sewer-project actions and a pump replacement.

Melissa Clow of HR Green reported that the Water Treatment Plant aerator replacement project will likely be completed by July 31, 2026. Construction has extended past the originally scheduled May 31 completion because crews encountered poor sanitary sewer conditions at the project site; the contractor added a subcontractor to assist in reinstating a sanitary service under the property at the corner of Hickory Street and Elm Street.

The council approved Professional Services Agreement Amendment No.1 with HR Green for the Elm & Hickory Street Sanitary Sewer Project and approved Change Order #03 from Tschiggfrie Excavating Co., a deduct of $432.50, for the Ford & Huber Sanitary Sewer Project. The council also approved a purchase request from MVP in the amount of $18,525 (plus labor and mileage) to replace a faulty Flygt pump at the 2nd Street lift station; the pump purchase was approved with Council Member Dan Smith voting no and the remaining members voting yes.

Why it matters: delays at the Water Treatment Plant may affect plant operations and schedules for associated maintenance work, and the approved contract actions adjust project scope/costs and provide for an immediate equipment replacement at a lift station.

What’s next: staff will continue construction and sewer reinstatement work; the Elm & Hickory agreement amendment and change order will be implemented per the approved contract documents.
