Commissioners approve modified sign at 333 West Chestnut, remove street number and limit illumination

The commission approved a revised ground sign for 333 West Chestnut Street after hearing from the applicant and several commissioners and residents.

The applicant, identified in the record as a representative of Olympic Sign Company, presented two revised designs: “First option would be the Vistamark incorporated in the sign and then that would light up,” and a second option that moved the Vistamark to the base as dimensional, non‑illuminated lettering and reduced the sign’s overall height by one foot. Commissioners and community participants debated legibility, clutter and lighting. “I think there’s too many things on this sign. After discussion, commissioners coalesced around option one modified to remove the address, replace the top Vistamark panel with a brick surround, and mount the Vistamark name at the bottom as non‑illuminated dimensional letters. The clerk restated the motion’s conditions for clarity before the vote.

A roll‑call vote recorded all present commissioners voting in favor; the motion passed. The recorded conditions require the bottom Vistamark letters to be non‑illuminated and the top panel to be revised to a brick panel as described in the approved motion.
