Robbie, a representative of Olympic Sign Company, presented two revised sign options based on prior commission comments and said the updated designs reduced overall height and removed certain colors from tenant panels. "Again, Robbie from Olympic Sign Company presenting two options for you based on the comments from last time," the presenter said during the meeting.
Commissioners discussed legibility, landscape visibility and illumination. Several commissioners said the building already displays its street number and recommended removing the address from the sign to avoid it being obscured by year-round plantings. One commissioner summed up the prevailing view: prefer option one but relocate the Vista Mark identification to the lower portion and make it non-illuminated so the sign is less visually dominant.
After discussion, Commissioner Krillinberger moved to approve Option One with these conditions: remove the street address from the sign, replace the top Vista Mark panel with a brick panel, and pin-mount the Vista Mark identification as non-illuminated dimensional lettering at the bottom. Commissioner Curry seconded the motion. The commission then completed a roll-call vote and approved the motion.
The approval includes a condition that the lower Vista Mark lettering be non-illuminated; commissioners also requested revised plans showing any night-time rendering if illumination is proposed in the future. The applicant will submit revised plans reflecting the brick panel and the revised placement and illumination condition before final sign permit issuance.
The commission thanked the applicant for returning with two options and for making the reviewed adjustments. The sign permit decision is final at the Plan Commission level unless appealed or otherwise reviewed by the Village Board as required by local code.
