Island County schedules executive session on employee performance, plans public clerk interviews

The Board of Island County Commissioners added an executive session under RCW 42.30.110(1)(g) to discuss the performance of a public employee and later reconvened into that executive session during the afternoon.
At the end of the morning session the chair announced the board would meet in executive session at 1:00 p.m. in the Admin Building, Room 116, expected to last until 2:00 p.m. with no public announcement anticipated. The clerk later confirmed the board entered executive session at 1:00 p.m., extended the session by 25 minutes, and then exited the session and adjourned.
Separately, the chair said the next day the board would hold public interviews for three applicants being considered to serve out the remaining term for the Superior Court clerk for 2026. The board indicated it would go into executive session after the public interviews to discuss applicants and then publicly announce a selection.
Commissioner (speaker 3) also noted that the Welcome Unified Committee (WUC) had met, passed bylaws and elected Chris Kelly as chair, and asked whether commissioners wanted Chris to provide an update to the board in a future public meeting.
