Mayor D.C. Reeves announced that the city has a contractor ready to begin an $8 million construction project to replace the Fricker Center and expand services at the site.
"We have our contractor on ready to go for an $8 million construction project of a new Fricker Center," Reeves said, describing the replacement as more than a gym and saying it will include senior services and workforce development opportunities on site.
Reeves said the project will provide a gymnasium and other resources, add a senior center and create on-site workforce development and job opportunities, and called the effort "about building the community, not just the gymnasium." He characterized the project as the city's largest investment in years across its 11 community centers but did not provide a timeline for construction or a completion date.
The mayor did not specify funding sources beyond the $8 million figure, and he did not name the contractor. City officials will provide further details as planning and contracting proceed.
