Council approves short-term extension for Jacobs OMI operations contract as longer deal is finalized

The council approved an eighth amendment to the operations, maintenance and management agreement with Operations Management International (Jacobs OMI) to extend the current contract through the end of the year while staff finalize a longer-term contract.
A presenter described the amendment as a short-term extension while negotiations continue: "We've been doing 3 months increments... this time, we've given ourselves some float, so we've got it all the way to the end of the year. But the intent is to get the contract formalized and finalized before that time," the presenter said. When asked about the length of the subsequent contract, the presenter estimated it would "probably go out for 5 to 10 years" from the day it's signed.
Council moved and seconded the authorization for the mayor to execute the eighth amendment; the motion carried on a voice vote.
What this means: the extension allows uninterrupted operations and gives staff time to finalize the full contract terms. Staff indicated the goal is to complete the long-term agreement before the extension lapses.
