During its June 8 session the Robertson County School Board received the district attendance report for April and May and flagged chronic absenteeism as an area of concern.
Staff reported the district average attendance at roughly 95 percent, with White House Heritage leading high schools at 98.4 percent (April) and 98.7 percent (May). The presenter noted five schools (Coopertown Middle, Crest View Elementary, Green Middle, Joe Burns High and Springfield High) each had more than 50 students with 20 or more absences, and that 735 students districtwide finished the year missing at least 20 days, roughly 7 percent of the student population.
Board members asked staff to gather comparative data from neighboring districts and to check what legal or community interventions other counties use to address chronic absenteeism. The board also discussed incentives and school-level practices used to raise attendance, particularly at high-performing schools.
What happens next: Staff said they will compile comparative attendance data and deliver a summer report with additional context and recommendations.
