Seward County awards rock and gravel bids to all bidders, appoints Planning Commission member and approves consent items

On June 9 the Seward County Board of Commissioners took several routine but consequential actions: it awarded rock and gravel bids for the Road Department to all firms that submitted bids, appointed a Planning Commission member, and approved the consent agenda that included fee reports and a request to place an electronic sign promoting the Seward County Fair.

Member Raegan Hain moved and Member Scott Pekarek seconded the recommendation from Highway Superintendent Jon Regnier and Assistant Highway Superintendent Trever Trebilcock to award the rock and gravel bids to all companies that provided bids. Bidders listed in the minutes were Johnson Sand & Gravel; Dale R. Johnson; James Enterprise Inc.; Mid-Nebraska Aggregate; Southwest Gravel Products; and Vogt Trucking. The motion passed with affirmative votes from Hain, Pekarek, Zabrocki and Chairperson Misty Ahmic.

The board also discussed applicants for the Planning Commission and emphasized the need for geographic balance; Member Hain moved and Member Pekarek seconded to appoint Brent Schluckebier for a term beginning June 23, 2026 through June 22, 2029. The motion carried unanimously among members present.

Finally, on a motion by Member Darrell Zabrocki and seconded by Member Raegan Hain the board approved the consent agenda, which included the Clerk of District Court Fee Report for May 2026 ($2,801.15), the County Clerk Fee Report for May 2026 ($83,870.34), the Zoning Fee Report for May 2026 ($3,100.00), and a request by the Seward County Ag Society to place an electronic sign on the southwest corner of the Courthouse Square July 20–28, 2026 to promote the Seward County Fair.

These routine actions were recorded in the official minutes and the board adjourned at 10:53 a.m.
