Commissioners approve museum repairs and county parking sealcoating, ask staff to seek HVAC quotes

Maintenance staff described interior damage to the museum after winter water-line breaks and recommended a scope of work including plaster repairs, painting, ADA restroom installation and ceiling tile replacement. The board authorized a not-to-exceed contract of $9,740 with the low bidder LRC Roofing & Remodeling. "We did get the low bidder and I would ask a motion that we proceed," the maintenance director said; a commissioner moved and the board voted to approve the expenditure.
Separately, staff presented the single bid received for sealcoating from Nelson Sil Coat. The total bid for three county locations was $20,235, with the Orange County Community Center portion quoted at $6,164. Commissioners approved proceeding with the contractor and agreed to schedule the work after tax bills are mailed to avoid parking disruptions.
Commissioners also discussed ongoing problems with the courthouse chiller, which maintenance reported is intermittently failing and may have an obsolete compressor. Staff said Mariner (the maintenance contractor) would provide a cost estimate while the county attempts to solicit two additional quotes to meet the county's bidding expectations. "I'll have to find two more because I know it's going to be expensive," the maintenance director said.
The board approved motions for the museum contract and sealcoating and asked staff to return with additional HVAC cost estimates or emergency purchase options if warranted. The board also noted routine coordination to ensure the sheriff’s parking needs are accounted for when work is scheduled.
