Audubon County Public Health outlines flu clinics, grant awards and radon-tester loan program

Audubon County Public Health reported new and continuing services and grant support at the Oct. 28 Board of Supervisors meeting.
Jotham Arber, the county’s Public Health representative, told supervisors that the department had been approved for a free clinic grant and is partnering with VaxCare to provide walk-in flu shots; staff are also coordinating with area schools to offer vaccinations on site. The department plans to offer CPR classes this winter for those needing initial certification or renewal.
Arber said the HOPES program is transitioning to a new program called PATS and that Environmental Health staff continue septic, well and water testing until the ground freezes. The county purchased radon testers that will be available for residents to loan; the program will require a check deposit in case a device is damaged during the loan period. Arber also said he will contact local food banks to check inventory ahead of expected SNAP benefit funding cuts and noted ongoing conversations with area schools about expanding student mental health services.
Arber additionally noted his representation of Audubon County on the Elderbridge board and that Elderbridge could provide a report showing service hours delivered to the county. No board action was recorded on funding or staffing changes during the presentation.
