Covington County commissioners approve liquor license, administrator contract, surplus equipment and solicit bids

At its May 12 meeting the Covington County Commission approved several routine administrative items, including a retail beer and retail table wine license for Express Lane 4, approval of a county administrator contract with a salary correction, declaration of surplus county equipment, and authorization to solicit bids for annual right'of'way mowing and herbicide application.

Chairman Michael Smith said the license request concerns the former Hart's Grocery on Antioch Road. Commissioner Robbie Weaver moved to recommend approval of the retail beer and retail table wine license for Express Lane 4; Commissioner Ben Courson seconded the motion and the commission voted unanimously.

Chairman Smith presented a proposed employment contract for County Administrator Karen L. Sowell. Commissioner Lynne Holmes questioned whether the annual salary figure was correct; Mrs. Sowell said the figure reflected the prior amount and commissioners approved the contract with the corrected salary after a motion by Commissioner Ben Courson and a second by Commissioner Robbie Weaver.

County Engineer Derick Donaldson requested that three trucks and a cab enclosure be declared surplus; the commission approved disposal as recommended (two 2006 trucks, a 2008 Ford F350 and a cab enclosure to scrap; trucks to be sold on GovDeals). The commission also authorized solicitation of bids for right'of'way mowing and herbicide application; Mr. Donaldson said bids may be awarded separately for mowing and herbicide.
