Highway superintendent reports major May flooding; county secures $10,000 tire-recycling grant

Orange County's highway superintendent reported significant flooding from storms on May 18–19 that damaged roads across the county, with Southeast Township, Stampers Creek and Greenfield hit hardest and one county road remaining underwater as crews continue repairs.
"We have a lot of damage incurred the county with extreme flooding on May 18th and 19th," Highway Superintendent Carl told the commissioners, noting crews placed emergency signage and worked to keep motorists from driving into flood waters.
Carl also announced that Orange County solid waste successfully secured a tire-recycling grant for $10,000, the same program the county received in 2024. Once final paperwork is complete, the county will advertise a public tire-collection event and will accept tires until the grant funds are exhausted.
County officials asked for public patience as road repairs and pavement prep continue during the paving season. The superintendent thanked crews for emergency response work and asked residents to heed road closures and signage while repairs proceed.
