Commissioners approve tankless water heater for courthouse after motion

Rob, the county maintenance director, presented two bids from Orange County Plumbing and one from Maringer: Orange County Plumbing quoted $6,340 to replace the existing tank and $5,422 for a tankless installation; Maringer—stimated $6,350 for a tank replacement. Commissioners discussed that a tankless unit reduces the volume of stored water and therefore the risk of major water damage if a tank leaks, though it may require drilling a hole through the basement wall for installation.
Commissioner Richard moved to accept the tankless bid and Commissioner Steve seconded. The board voted "aye" and approved the tankless option 3-0, with the cost charged to capital funds.
Why this matters: replacing an aging and leaking water heater addresses an immediate maintenance problem and can reduce long-term flood risk to courthouse infrastructure. The county recorded the motion, mover and seconder and a unanimous vote in the minutes.
