Libraries and Good Neighbor Center warn of tighter county funding as supervisors consider FY27 allocations

Representatives of the Audubon and Exira libraries told supervisors they have provided recent reports and asked for different splits of the county’s upcoming library allocation: Exira requested a 50/50 split while Audubon requested 60% of the total allocation. Supervisors said they have not set the total allocation and warned the FY27 pool could be smaller than last year; they said they would consider the comments and aim to decide the following week.
Glen Myers, representing the Good Neighbor Center, reviewed FY25 and FY26 activities and said Elderbridge funding cuts have reduced support for the center’s meal program. The minutes state Myers warned the center would have "trouble fulfilling the meals with the current budget"; the minutes also record that the center served 3,350 meals last year across Audubon and Exira. Supervisors said they will meet with Elderbridge to inquire about the funding and will consider the center’s request during budget deliberations.
No formal allocation decision was made at the Oct. 21 meeting; supervisors asked staff to review bylaws for the Audubon County Economic Development (ACED) board before committing to allocations or board seats.
