The Lenoir City Council opened a required first public hearing Feb. 17 to notify residents of the city's intent to apply for Community Development Block Grant — Disaster Recovery (CDBG‑DR) funding. The hearing is the first of two public hearings required for applications.
Kyle Case of the Western Pedmont Council of Governments told the council that the CDBG‑DR guidelines had not been released at the time of the meeting, so specific eligible activities were not known. He said the city’s notice and this first hearing are valid for 12 months and that once guidelines are released a second public hearing will address specific project proposals.
Case described the types of activities commonly eligible under CDBG‑DR programs — infrastructure projects, housing assistance and commercial district revitalization — but emphasized that the city cannot finalize project plans until the federal and state guidance is published.
No public speakers asked questions during the hearing and the council closed the hearing; staff said a follow‑up hearing will be scheduled after guidance becomes available.
