Hannah, a planner in the city’s planning department, described Duchan’s credentials and contributions to local projects, saying, “Matt Duchan is a skilled and effective planner.” She noted his master’s degree in urban and regional planning and his role in the city’s comprehensive plan and site plan reviews. The AICP certification, she said, required months of preparation, an experience assessment and a national exam.
Duchan thanked colleagues and introduced his family, saying he was “thrilled to receive this award working with the city of Lenoir.” Council members and attendees applauded and posed for photos with the honoree.
The AICP credential signals national professional certification for planners; during remarks staff noted the exam is a lengthy, multi-section professional test and that certification reflects experience as well as exam results. The recognition was accompanied by a short presentation and photographs.
No formal action was required or taken by the council for the recognition; it was a ceremonial item on the agenda.
