HOBART — The Common Council of the City of Hobart took several procedural and land-use votes on May 20, 2026, all carried by unanimous votes of the six members present.
Ordinance 2026-14: Annexation adopted. Council adopted Ordinance 2026-14 (annexing 6.66 acres owned by Hobart Property Holdings II LLC, west of I-65 north of 37th Avenue) on second reading by roll-call vote, 6-0.
Ordinance 2026-15: Zoning amendment advanced. Council approved Ordinance 2026-15 on first reading, changing a T-shaped parcel southeast of 61st Avenue and Arizona Street from R-3 to M-1 to match adjacent zoning; the Plan Commission had offered a favorable recommendation. Vote: 6-0.
Use variance (920 E. Cleveland Ave.): Denied. The Board of Zoning Appeals issued an unfavorable recommendation for a requested variance to allow an apartment over a detached garage at 920 E. Cleveland Ave.; City Attorney McCarthy told the Council a state law taking effect July 1, 2026 may permit the use by right. Council adopted the BZA recommendation to deny the variance. Vote: 6-0.
Ordinance 2026-16: Right-of-way vacate set for public hearing. Council approved Ordinance 2026-16 on first reading (vacating 0.55 acres on the NW corner of US 30 and Grand Blvd) and scheduled a public hearing for June 3, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. Vote: 6-0.
Other: Council left on the table the CF-1 compliance review for Daifuku Intralogistics America Corp. The meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
