The Lenoir City Council deferred consideration of an acceptance of an offer to purchase at its June 18 meeting after staff said the bidder failed to submit the required bid deposit on time.
City Manager Hilderbrand told the council the offer from "Ste A Corporation" lacked the timely deposit required by the city's procedures and that, by law, the city must wait to process the bid deposit. He indicated the item would be relisted for council consideration on the July 13 agenda.
Later in the meeting the council approved a motion by Council Member Stevens to go into closed session to discuss economic development matters pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes (transcript cites "143-30570") and to address pending litigation. The city attorney identified the pending litigation as involving David and Doris Williams and CresCom Bank. The council voted to enter closed session unanimously; the mayor said no action was expected following the closed session.
The item to accept the offer to purchase remains deferred until the council reconvenes on the relisted date.
